Datchet Junior wins at St. Andrews Junior Open
Datchet Golf Club Junior member, Amy Staniford 17, has won the Girls Open Quaich at the St. Andrews Junior Ladies Open competition played between 2nd and 5th August 2010 at the home of golf.
Amy qualified for the finals of the handicap matchplay tournament by shooting a score five shots below her handicap of 15 in the qualifying round. With seven other finalists she played two knockout rounds over the St Andrews Stathtyrum Course, winning both her matches 1 Up and 5 & 4 and successfully reaching the final played over the Old Course.
Here she played Heather Munro from Scotland who played off a handicap of eight. Despite going behind early in the match, Amy was undaunted by the opposition and the testing conditions on the Old Course, and eventually won the match 4 & 3.
This was a tremendous achievement for Amy who plays most of her golf at Datchet Golf Club and where the members were not surprised at her success, as she has been winning a number of the Ladies events over recent years.

Datchet Golf Club Captain’s Days
Datchet Golf Club’s Captains Days were blessed with good weather and excellent support from the members and a full field took to the course on Saturday for the Ladies Captain’s Competition and Sunday for the Men’s Captain’s Competition.
This year’s Captains are Mike Green and Irene Gregory and both enjoyed their days which were highly successful in raising much needed money for their chosen charities, the NSPCC and Cancer Research UK respectively.
The winners of the Captains Prizes demonstrated that golf can be played to a good standard at any age.
The Men’s competition was won by Gareth Clarke 22 who joined the Club in August 2009 and shot a net score of 60 off a handicap of 26.
The Ladies competition was won by Sybil Perry 82 who joined the Club in October 1968 and shot a net score of 68 off a handicap of 31.
This clearly shows that it is never too early nor too late to take up the game of golf.
