Datchet Golf Club Junior’s Success

Datchet Golf Club’s investment in their Junior Section has reaped tremendous rewards following their Golf Mark award last year.

The Club now has in excess of 40 Junior members who enjoy free coaching, summer academies and full use of the club facilities. A number of the Juniors have shown real potential and their handicaps have fallen substantially over the summer months.

There are a number of junior competitions through the year, but they are also eligible to play in the main Club competitions where they have achieved some notable success this year.

In March, Christian Jones 14, scored 44 points off a handicap of 26 to win the Peter McKenzie Charity Cup. Christian now plays off a handicap of 11.

Also in March, Kris Cannon 18, won his second senior competition scoring a net 66 off a handicap of 12 to win the Len Street Trophy.

In July, Alex Proctor 13, won the Albert Bolton Trophy played over 36 holes, where he shot a net 127 for the two rounds off a handicap of 20. Alex now plays off a handicap of 12.

In the same competition, second place was taken by another Junior, Freddie Wright 14, who shot a net 131 off a handicap of 26. Freddie now plays off a handicap of 17.

The Club Captain, Mike Green, was full of praise for the way the Juniors had developed over the year, not only with their improving golf on the course, but also with their conduct off the course. He said “They are the future of Datchet Golf Club and a credit to the Club and their parents”.

The Club is also working with a number of local schools to promote the game of golf to children of all ages.
